Approximately 55,000 families have reportedly been harmed by the storms, with their possessions and temporary homes destroyed.

Persistent storms over the recent period have worsened the already dire situation of the many hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians in the region, as reported by relief groups.

"Awful" Weather Creates Grave Threats

A representative described the previous night's conditions as "awful", with rain so heavy that around 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the terrain.

"Last night was exceptionally horrendous for the families. The heavy rains were so strong... And the gales were so strong," noted the spokesperson.

Authorities voice extreme worry that children living in makeshift shelters in wet attire will succumb to hypothermia and various ailments.

Fatalities and Widespread Damage

The health ministry have stated that one baby has succumbed from exposure and at least 11 other people have lost their lives in building collapses caused by the storms.

Other reports put a higher fatality count. Spokespeople stated that multiple homes had fully given way and scores had been partly destroyed.

  • Roughly 55,000 families affected by the weather.
  • More than 40 designated refuges severely flooded.
  • Numerous individuals compelled to find new shelter.

Assistance Operations Considered Not Enough

Agencies have increased shipments of tents, bedding and clothes since the halt in hostilities began, but they stress there is remains not enough aid reaching those in need.

"We are operating tirelessly to deliver that aid and to hand it out, but the scale of the necessities is so vast that we still have many thousands of people and children who are truly enduring hardship each evening," warned one official.

Long-Term Challenges and Ceasefire Provisions

The subsequent part of the ceasefire involves proposals for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with post-war governance, the removal of personnel, and other conditions.

Aid bodies have stressed the need for "expanded and ongoing aid to address immediate and future needs."

The war was sparked by an attack in late 2023. Subsequent military operations have led to a high number of fatalities in the region, according to health ministry reports.
