NY Giants signal-caller Russell Wilson didn't mince words on online platforms this week, responding to recent comments from his former coach Sean Payton.
"Classless... but not surprised...," Wilson stated via social media. "Had no idea you're still offering rewards 15+ years later through the press."
Wilson's response pointed to the notorious bounty scandal controversy from 2009 to 2011, when Payton led the Saints.
At that time, the league found that the Saints had incentivized team members for delivering hard hits on opponents. Consequently, Payton received a suspension from the league for one season.
The quarterback's response came after Payton made remarks following Denver's historic 33-32 win over the Giants. The coach suggested that the team had "found a little spark" with their new QB, who has taken over Wilson as the starting quarterback.
Moreover, Payton hinted that he had told team owner John Mara that he would rather facing Wilson over Dart.
"I spoke to John Mara recently and I said, 'We hoped that change would've happened well after our game,'" Payton stated.
Had Wilson stayed on the team by March 2024, his $37 million pay for the following year would have been locked in. In the end, Wilson was let go, marking the contentious breakup between the quarterback and his coach.
