Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Initiating Derogatory Songs About Coach Wilder

The striker has signed with Sheffield United just seven months after starting insulting chants directed at their manager, Chris Wilder.

This experienced striker, without a club since leaving Leeds, has agreed to a deal joining the Championship club in difficulty through the winter. His seven-year spell at Elland Road concluded through agreement in August.

One of Bamford’s last memorable actions as a Leeds player involved leading insulting songs regarding Chris Wilder during Leeds' promotion celebrations in April. Now, the one-cap England international is set to play for Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to rescue his beloved club away from the relegation zone.

Previous History Involving Bamford and Wilder

Both men had a past before Leeds moved up back to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager described the forward as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.

Reconciliation and Looking Ahead

All appears has been put behind them with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of a boost in attack while Bamford aiming to resurrect his career.

The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Chris Wilder commented at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I’ve no issue at all with it. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow pro! But I valued and respected him calling me.

“We had 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel as well and had a half-hour chat with him and he's a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of the game at every level, including a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”

The forward made 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Boro striker has struggled with fitness issues in recent years.
