Acclaimed Actress Diane Ladd, Known For Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Dies at 89 Years Old.

The Academy Award-nominated actor the celebrated Diane Ladd left us aged 89.

The actor, whose credits included Chinatown, passed away at home at her Ojai, California home. This announcement was announced via an announcement by her offspring, award-winning actress Laura Dern.

Her daughter, who performed alongside her mother in various films including Rambling Rose, called her “my wonderful hero plus my precious gift of a mother”, noting that she was at her bedside during her final moments.

“She was an exceptional mother, daughter, grandmother, star, artist and empathetic spirit that only dreams could have seemingly created,” she wrote. “We were lucky to have her. She is flying with her angels now.”

Early Career and Breakthrough

Her initial acting years featured supporting roles in television programs such as Gunsmoke while that decade saw her starring alongside Jack Nicholson in Chinatown.

In the same year, 1974, she shared the screen with Ellen Burstyn in Scorsese’s praised film Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. Her acting brought Ladd her first Oscar nomination as best supporting actress.

Later Decades

Throughout the 1980s, she starred in the dramatic film Black Widow, a suspense story as well as humorous film Christmas Vacation and also took part in the sitcom Alice, a television series inspired by Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.

In the subsequent decade, she earned a further Oscar nomination for supporting actress Academy Award nomination for her performance in Lynch’s the movie Wild at Heart in which she portrayed the mom of her actual daughter the character played by Dern. The decade also brought her nominations for Emmy Awards for work in the series Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman, Grace Under Fire plus Touched by an Angel.

Partnerships with Her Daughter

She continued to star with Laura Dern in comedy drama the film Daddy and Them, Lynch’s Inland Empire, a surreal film and Mike White’s comedy-drama series the program Enlightened. She additionally starred with Sandra Bullock in 28 Days, a movie, Anthony Hopkins, a legend in that movie and Jennifer Lawrence in Joy, a biographical drama.

Her more recent television parts included Ray Donovan, a drama and Young Sheldon, a comedy.

Writing and Directing

Ladd also wrote and oversaw the humorous movie Mrs Munck which starred Diane Ladd and previous spouse actor Bruce Dern. “Bruce is an excellent performer,” she said. “It was a privilege to guide him on a project. Back in 2018, Ladd was misdiagnosed with lung disease and advised she had just six months to live yet she recovered completely when her daughter transferred her to a different hospital.
